Just in Signed copies of the new book by Don McCullin, Life, Death and Everything in Between presents key photographs by Don McCullin. The 140 images in the book—some rarely published or previously unseen—were edited by McCullin through the process of revisiting his archives and reassessing photographs made from the late 1950s until last year. The book aims to be neither a retrospective nor definitive publication, but to present a selection of images valued by McCullin with the benefits of both hindsight and wisdom, encapsulating his prolific, varied and ongoing career. The book opens with McCullin's documentary photographs made in London in the 1950s, followed by reportage made in conflicts across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and South-East Asia. More recent photographs in the book link the legacy of the Roman Empire in the Mediterranean and the latest, previously unpublished landscapes made near his home in Somerset.
Also just in are signed copies of the new book Coming and Going Jim Goldberg's unique work of autobiography. Goldberg has been photographing his daily life through all its vicissitudes and returning to his studio to re-imagine and investigate these images through a practice of collage, annotation, montage, and reconstruction for which he has become renowned. This book charts a course through the grief following the death of one's parents, the life-altering birth of a child, the heartbreak of divorce, and the rediscovery of love. Told using a correspondingly tumultuous blend of singular and combined imagery, personal notes, collages, and ephemera, the book captures the bittersweet realities of an individual life while reflecting on the universal, inescapable comings and goings that shape us and the ways we grow to understand ourselves.

Just Arrived from Japan Signed copies of Stephen Gill's Magnificent Failures, this softcover book was published to coincide with an exhibition and events in Japan in October. The images included in this book were created by chance during the printing of other collections of Stephen's work. In offset printing, paper is passed through the printing press when changing plates or warming up the machine to visually check ink adjustment. In order to save money, the same paper was often used, and ``Magnificent Failure'' was born by overlapping various images on the sheet. The overlapping images created an unplanned image that led Stephen to rescue the sheet from the print shop's trash can. Limited to 750 copies.

In a limited edition of 1,500 copies, each book is signed and numbered by the artist and including a 4 x 6 inch chromogenic print is Tender by Carla Williams, the winner of the Aperture First Book Award 2023. Made in private between 1984 and 1999 and kept mostly to herself for more than thirty years, the images in Tender comprise a complete, personal self-portrait of a young, queer, Black woman intimately exploring the realm of her own possibility. When Williams was eighteen and studying photography at Princeton, she began making the black and white and color portraits in Tender to create pictures in her own image. Her mind was filled equally with the canonical images of the medium’s male-driven history and the posing women discovered during her youth in her father’s pornography collection. Using her own body, Williams created the portraits she had never seen before. Made with instant Polaroid 35mm and 4x5 type 55 film formats
Limited to just 500 copies, Rever dans la Desert by French-born artist Valerie Galloway is bound in coffee-colored silk boards with contrasting linen spine, and beautifully printed on natural textured art paper. The 32 hand-colored, toned gelatin silver photographs featured in Rêver Dans le Désert demonstrate her disparate styles: the voyeurism of Eugene Atget, the inexplicability of Man Ray, and the furtive aimlessness of the French New Wave. These images capture both fleeting French cultural references and timeless desert topographical references, each paying homage to the surrealists of the 1930s.
In celebration of Michael Kenna’s fiftieth year as a photographer, we are thrilled to announce the arrival of Michael Kenna: Photographs and Stories. This gorgeous new monograph, beautifully printed on Japanese Kasadaka paper and bound in custom deep blue cloth. Kenna has selected one image for each year beginning 1973, when he enrolled in the Banbury School of Art, and for each subsequent year. Following the “Photographs” section is “Stories,” in which Kenna gives context to each image and considers how it connected to his own life at the time. We have just a couple of regular First edition and a single Signed and numbered, slipped case copy available both titles were out of print before publication.

Gost Books have reprinted Haiti by Bruce Gilden. Gilden first journeyed to Haiti in 1984 to document the famous Mardi Gras festivities in Port au Prince. Fascinated by the country, he returned many times and his landmark monograph Haiti, a culmination of these photographs made during this period was first published in 1996. Gilden has continued to return to Haiti, and this new expanded edition of his book includes over thirty additional photographs made up until 2010, completing Gilden's vision of the county. Though only an hour's flight from Miami and the US mainland, Haiti remains the least-developed country in the Western Hemisphere. Haiti was freed from French colonial control and slavery in the early 19th Century but this independent came at a cost of an 'independence debt' which was not paid off until 1947. In addition, chronic instability, dictatorships and natural disasters in recent decades have left it as the poorest nation in the Americas.

Summer Nights Walking, in the mid-1970s, Robert Adams began recording nocturnal scenes near his former home in Longmont, Colorado. Illuminated by moonlight and streetlamp, suburban houses, roads, sidewalks and fields seemed transfigured. 25 years after first publishing a sequence of these pictures in 1985 as Summer Nights, he revisited his project, amending its title and completely re-editing its contents to create a more disquieting and thus more accurate reflection of his experience. Hailed as a new classic, Summer Nights, Walking went out of print soon after it was published in 2009. This sensitively enlarged edition, printed with the same exquisite care as the original, makes this revered body of work available to a new audience
Eden, in the fall of 1968, Robert Adams, a college English teacher, found himself inexplicably drawn to photograph a nondescript area south of Colorado Springs whose most notable feature was a truck stop off the interstate. Unflinching in their description yet embodying a mysteriously radiant peace, the pictures Adams made of the otherwise graceless site confirmed for him a vital new way of relating to the world. He would parlay this revelation into The New West, the book that would establish both his photographs and his subject—the contemporary landscape of the American frontier—as matters of wider consequence. This pivotal early series has been re-edited to include previously unpublished pictures from the period.
On Lookout Mountain, The view from Lookout Mountain west of Denver is of natural forms and our imprint on them, of the timeless and the passing. Generations have made their way there to find perspective on the city and the plains beyond. Robert Adams photographed from the overlook in 1970, and again in 1984. For this volume, he has assembled a selection of views which document a complex location that inspires both hope and despair.

Two recent reprints of Joel Sternfeld classics are available. Walking the High Line, In one of his last acts as mayor of New York City, Rudy Giuliani signed an order permitting the High Line, that beloved elevated railroad ruin which snaked down the west side of Manhattan, to be torn down. Everyone who had managed to climb up onto the High Line loved it: the wildflowers growing through disused tracks, the birds that followed the path north in spring, and south again in fall—that rural feeling magically flowing through the city like an unbidden river. Who didn't love the High Line? Those who owned the land beneath it and longed to erect high-rise buildings on the site, if only the High Line wasn't blocking their way.
American Prospects, Born of a desire to follow the seasons up and down America, and equally to find lyricism in contemporary American life despite all its dark histories, American Prospects has enjoyed a life of acclaim. Its pages are filled with unexpected excitement, despair, tenderness and hope. Its fears are expressed in beauty, its sadnesses in irony. Oddly enough, the society it seems to presage has now come to be; oddly enough, the ideas of this book bespeak our present moment. Often out of print, this new edition of Joel Sternfeld's seminal book returns to the format of the original 1987 edition. All of the now classic images within it—alongside a group of never published photographs—examine a once pristine land stewarded by indigenous peoples who needed no lessons in stewardship, and a land now occupied by a mix of peoples hoping for salvation within the fraught paths of late capitalism. The result suggests a vast nation whose prospects have much to do with global prospects, a “teenager of the world” unaware of its strengths, filled with idealism and frequent failings. These pictures see all but judge not.
The mystery of the Ordinary, William Eggleston, whose career has spanned over five decades, not only substantially contributed to this paradigm shift; he also noticeably influenced many subsequent generations. Along with Saul Leiter, Evelyn Hofer and Stephen Shore, Eggleston was one of the first photographers to recognize the distinctive power of color and its unique capacity to create pictures that continuously challenge the everyday. He imbued banality with the uncanny and mysterious: particularly because color is integral to human perception, Eggleston investigated his immediate surroundings again and again—as if he were somehow suspicious of the contents of his freezer, the ketchup bottle on the diner counter, not to mention the guns that appear as if by chance in so many of his pictures. Mystery of the Ordinary captures the full scope of Eggleston's evolution and legacy: from the early black-and-white work of the late 1950s, in which we witness his discovery and exploration of themes and unconventional croppings, to some of his most iconic color images.
Now out of print we have a few copies of Jeffrey Conley's third monograph, West. Published to accompany the artist's solo exhibition at the Museum of Photography Charles Nègre in Nice, France, this gorgeous new monograph presents 60 photographs of the American West, printed in duotone on Japanese Kasadaka art paper and bound in linen. Conley's first two monographs, Winter and Reverence, both sold out upon publication. Jeffrey Conley specializes in creating traditional black and white prints. His meticulously crafted prints, made utilizing traditional darkroom processes, are made in small limited editions. His work has been widely exhibited and collected by private collectors and museums worldwide.
